Display Guide
Correct display of the adhesive vignette is required by law. Follow this step-by-step guide:
- 1 Clean the inside of the windscreen with a lint-free cloth.
- 2 Choose the correct position: top left, behind the rear-view mirror or in the driver's field of vision.
- 3 Remove the protective film from the back of the vignette.
- 4 Affix the vignette from the inside of the screen – it must be readable from outside.
- 5 Press firmly and evenly to avoid air bubbles.
- 6 Detach the control section and keep it safe.
- 7 Check readability from outside through the screen.
- 8 Note the serial number for your records.

Glossary
- Vignette
- A toll sticker that grants access to toll roads. In Austria, both adhesive stickers and e-vignettes are available.
- Toll
- A fee for using roads, tunnels or bridges. In Austria, a distinction is made between vignette toll and route toll.
- ASFINAG
- Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen-Finanzierungs-Aktiengesellschaft – the state-owned company that operates Austria's motorway network and collects tolls.
- e-Vignette
- Digital vignette tied to a number plate. No sticker required; checked electronically.
- Route Toll
- Separate toll for specific road sections (e.g. tunnels, mountain passes), payable in addition to the vignette.
- Substitute Toll
- Flat-rate amount payable when driving without a valid vignette. Currently at least €120.
