Exemptions and Toll-Free Routes
The following route types are exempt from the vignette requirement:
- Federal roads (B-roads) – completely toll-free
- Provincial roads (L-roads) – completely toll-free
- Urban sections on motorways (short sections within built-up areas)
- Certain junction sections for local residents
- Routes with separate route tolls (e.g. Brenner, Tauern) – vignette applies, but additional route toll is charged
Local Specifics
Vienna
Parts of the A23 (South-East Tangent) within the city of Vienna require a vignette. The A22 (Danube Bank Motorway) also requires a vignette.
Tyrol
On the A13 (Brenner Motorway), a route toll is charged in addition to the vignette. The Inn Valley Motorway (A12) requires a vignette without a separate route toll.
Vorarlberg
The Arlberg Road Tunnel is subject to a route toll. The A14 (Rhine Valley/Walgau Motorway) requires a vignette.
Carinthia
The Karawanken Tunnel (A11) is subject to a route toll. The A2 through Carinthia requires a vignette.
Salzburg
The A10 (Tauern Motorway) is subject to a route toll on certain sections. The A1 through Salzburg requires a vignette.
Styria
The A9 (Pyhrn Motorway) is subject to a route toll on certain sections. The Gleinalm Tunnel is subject to a route toll.
